Daniel has a unique mix of professional experience, from international development to entrepreneurship to rich scientific career. He started as a project officer with ADRA Ghana in an integrated food security program where he worked with 5000 smallholders to increase their productivity, find markets and helped them reduce post-harvest losses. He then led a team of experts on USAID funded Trade and Investment program in Northern Ghana where he work on commodity value chains focusing on bottom of the pyramid actors. Daniel again worked as a GIS Program Manager with TechnoServe, on secondment to ACDI/VOCA. It’s in this role that he initiated the development of first Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) for Ghana’s agricultural sector. An interactive online platform (www.gis4ghagric.net). In research, he conducted a pioneering research in post-harvest management of perishables using advanced remote sensing techniques to model the post-harvest decay of vegetables during transport in West Africa. These models are currently being developed into a web service and a software application to promote inter-regional trade in West Africa. Daniel bridges the gap between farmer realities and technological innovations and has unique ability to translate technological solutions to solve real-life problems affecting small, illiterate farmers. As a proud farmer, he founded Eucharia Farms Ltd. and has been a consultant on GIS mapping projects, agribusiness and ICT for agriculture. In 2012, he joined Esoko Networks to become the Ghana country manager responsible for developing innovative ICT tools and e-extension services using mobile phones. He is currently the CEO of Esoko’s data collection service named Insyt. Daniel is also a fellow of the United Nations University-EHS and pursues a doctorate in climate change risk and vulnerability assessment West Africa.
